Root Certificates

The following root certificates may be downloaded and used without an agreement with GeoTrust. However, if your organization requires a license agreement to insert the GeoTrust roots into an application them please use the Root Certificate Distribution Agreement (PDF). Please contact us if you have any questions.

Which GeoTrust root certificates should I use?

  1. All SSL certificates, except for True BusinessID with EV, should use:
    Equifax Secure Certificate Authority
    • Download - Equifax Secure Certificate Authority (Base-64 encoded X.509) Right Click, Save As
    • Download - Equifax Secure Certificate Authority (DER encoded X.509) Right Click, Save As
  2. Extended Validation SSL Certificates require the use of two CA certificates to be installed on the web server; the Extended Validation Root CA certificate and the Extended Validation Intermediate CA certificate. Both of these CA certificates must be installed on the server to enable the "green bar" capability in IE7 and to ensure the proper trust chain is established.

    For Apache-based servers you will need the Apache True BusinessID with Extended Validation root package.

    For all other servers, the EV Root CA and EV Intermediate CA certificates are available below:

    Customers NOT running Apache Web servers:
    • Equifax Secure Certificate Authority (this root is included in all browser's root store) 
    • GeoTrust Primary Certificate Authority Intermediate CA
    • GeoTrust Extended Validation SSL CA Intermediate CA

  3. Application Specific Roots:
    • Adobe Certified Document Services - Used to digitally sign Certified PDF documents
    • Microsoft Smartphone - Used to digitally sign code for the Microsoft Smartphone
    • Unified Testing Initiative - Used to digitally sign code 3rd party tested code, including javaverified.com tested code
    • GeoTrust True Credentials - Intermediate CA - Optionally used with GeoTrust's True Credentials Environment
